Cairo University
Cairo University (CU) is one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Africa, having been established in 1908, and currently one of the highest-ranked university in Africa. CU has been an active participant in a number of EU projects focused on water-ecosystem-food nexus and has been a partner with numerous institutions of higher learning in Africa, Europe and beyond. The presence of a strong social capital represented by distinguished graduates in the field, both inside Egypt and abroad. CU has 2 farms with 400 acres, one located in the delta and the other in the desert allowing for the diversification of agricultural research reflecting Egyptian agriculture. CU is setting up a centre of excellence in agriculture in collaboration with US universities that will position it as innovation hub in Africa.
Role in Project
CU will be the lead of WP4 involved in developing WEcoF digital portal for dissemination of innovations.

Dr. Fadi Mohamed Hisham Abdelrad
Team leader
Dr. Fadi Mohamed Hisham Abdelrad is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Cairo. He received his PhD in Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business - University of Barcelona in 2014. He is an agribusiness specialist and a team member of Egypt’s Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy 2030 update, (Food and Nutrition security, poverty, unemployment, gender). Dr. Abdelradi is an affiliate researcher for the FAO project (GCP/RNE/004/ITA) a systematic review study on food loss and waste.
Dr. Hesham M. Bekhit

Dr. Hesham M. Bekhit is an Associate Professor of the Irrigation and Hydraulics Department, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, Egypt. He received his PhD in Hydrology, Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences, University of Nevada, Reno, USA, 2004. He is a project manager for Civil Environmental Engineering Group Consultant (CEEG) and he is an expert in hydraulics.
