University of Crete
The University of Crete is a young public educational institution committed to excellence in research and teaching. Established in 1973, the University accepted its first students in 1977-78. It now has 16 Departments in 5 Schools (Philosophy, Education, Social, Economic & Political Sciences, Sciences & Engineering, and Medicine).
The international orientation of the University is reflected in its track record of collaborations with many of the leading research and educational institutions in Europe and worldwide, as well as active
promotion of mobility and exchange programs.
Among the highest active departments of the University of Crete is the Department of Economics, which is participating in the project. The department of Economics has a significant collaboration history with the agriculture policy-making sector, having participated in many EU and national research projects in the field.
Role in Project
The main contribution is providing the conceptual and analytical framework based on mechanism design approaches and focus group done in WP3.

Prof. Vangelis Tzouvelekas
Team leader
Prof. Vangelis Tzouvelekas is a Professor of Economic Theory and Policy at the Department of Economics, University of Crete. Since 2015 he is an external consultant for the World Bank in rural development and regional economic growth issues in developing countries. He has more than 20 publications in international refereed journals, collective volumes and proceedings, over 30 contributions in international and Greek conferences, he has authored two books and he has served as a referee for international journals.
Prof. Sofia Triliva

Prof. Sofia Triliva is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Department of Psychology at the University of Crete. She has been involved in qualitative research and intervention initiatives applied towards the enhancement of people’s lives for the past 30 years. The focus of her work is the creation, application, and evaluation of mental health promotion initiatives at the community level. Her research focuses on community practices found to enhance wellbeing through dialogue that challenges oppressive social, relational and cultural conditions which can lead to group solidarity and reciprocity.
Dr. Kostis Pigounakis

Dr. Kostis Pigounakis is a member of the laboratory teaching staff of the Department of Economics, and a member of the Entrepreneurship and Market Research Unit of the University of Crete, where he has been involved in quanitative research. He studied Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (National Technical University of Athens - 1991) and he received his PhD from the National Technical University of Athens (1997) in the fields of Computer Aided Geometric Modelling and Fairing. He worked as a freelancer engineer (1992-2003) and as a researcher in several projects in Greece and abroad. His current research interests are Data

Dr. Athanasios Papakonstantinou

Dr. Athanasios Papakonstantinou has a PhD in Computer Science at 2010 from the School of Electronics and Computer Science in the University of Southampton in the UK. His doctoral thesis focused on mechanism design and auction theory applications in multiagent systems. Since then he has been employed as a post-doctoral researcher in Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Today he is a tenure-tracked research scientist in the Dept. of Technology, Management and Economics in DTU. His research lies in the intersection of Economics, Optimisation and Power Systems, focusing on game theory applications in energy-related topics.
