Stakeholder engagement, capacity building and governance

Building on stakeholders’ viewpoints and expertise to put forward solutions to the WEFE Nexus and promote knowledge-transfer.

WP3 will ensure that the viewpoints of key stakeholders and the local expertise are adequately taken into consideration while identifying the main challenges of and solutions to the WEFE Nexus. Based on the special features of the local key stakeholders, the project will then put forward solutions and share practices, which could blunt the conflicting interests and lead to a consensus on the sustainable management of water.

The main research activities of WP3 are:

  1. On one side, SIGMA Nexus will build on a Delphi study to understand the interrelationships within economic sectors, as well as identify the main challenges of and solutions to the WEFE Nexus in each study site.

  1. On the other side, the project will investigate the stakeholders’ perceptions on the sustainability of the Nexus and the regulatory capacities of the nexus governance through Focus Groups. Our research endeavour is to concentrate on key stakeholders, especially on women among them, living in the case study sites, focusing on their viewpoints, voices, needs, and they solutions to practical problems.

  1. Finally, building on the stakeholder engagement activities, SIGMA Nexus will propose a SIGMA-Nexus Mechanism Design framework to foresee and manage the conflicting interests between the involved sectors and stakeholders based on the existing resource constraints. By using the optimal setup developed in the other WPs as its input, the SIGMA-Nexus Mechanism will be used to model the conflicts that may arise due to limited access to information and contradicting incentives between the Nexus stakeholders.
